Adu Frimpong (born on April 4, 1994), professionally known as Medikal, is a Ghanaian hip-hop musician born to Portia Lamptey and James Frimpong in Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra.

Who is Medikal?
Known for referring to himself as Starboy and Stubborn Academy, Medikal’s real name is Samuel Adu Frimpong.
He is an award-winning Ghanaian rapper and songwriter signed to Arab Money Gang (AMG Beyond Kontrol).
The rapper is from Accra, Ghana. He was born and brought up in Anyaa Sowutuom (popularly known as Sowutuom), a suburban town in the city.
He is the son of Portia Lamptey and James Frimpong. His mother is supportive of the rapper’s career. Medikal has a younger sister, Patra Adwoa Frimpong. He attended Odorgonno Senior High School, where he attained a high school certificate.
Notably, Medikal started singing at a young age and rapped in high school. His songs were about doctors, surgeons, and the medical profession. As a result, his friends gave him the name Medikal, which he adopted as his stage name when he started performing professionally.
Musical Career
Before becoming a musician, he worked as a professional footballer for the Ghana Premier League team Sekondi Hasaacas.
Medikal started singing professionally while still in high school around 2008, which was about 13 years ago. However, it wasn’t easy for him to find enough funds to record his songs as a student until 2010 when the AMG Business record label signed him.
In 2010, his unique style, hard work, and determination to break into the limelight caught the attention of AMG Boss Criddle Waddle, who signed Medikal into his record label AMG Business. After signing with AMG Business, Medikal grew to become one of the most popular Ghanaian artists.
He has released several hit songs that have garnered the attention of Ghanaians. Some of these songs include “Accra,” “Omo Ada,” “El Chairmano,” “Stop it,” “Wrowroho,” and more.
In 2017, Medikal received seven nominations at the Ghana Music Awards but couldn’t win any. He returned well-prepared in 2019 and took home two awards that night at the Ghana Music Awards. The rapper won Hip Hop Artiste of the Year and Best Rapper of The Year in 2019 at the Ghana Music Awards.
